Signature Theatre
Volunteer Guidelines and Expectations
We appreciate that as a volunteer, you are representing Signature Theatre. We therefore expect the highest regard and respect for our patrons and towards your volunteer colleagues. Please consider the following guidelines when making the choice to be a Signature Theatre Volunteer.
- The high level of customer service that the volunteer staff provides to our patrons ensures a favorable first impression and guarantees their comfort and safety when attending events.
- Volunteers are expected to serve a variety of functions such as greeting and directing patrons, ticket scanning, guiding patrons to their seats, assisting guests with special needs, answering questions, selling merchandise, and directing patrons in the event of an emergency. Functions are assigned nightly by the House Manager.
- Volunteer ushers must be physically able to stand for an hour at a time during a shift. Please let the Volunteer Coordinator know in advance of your physical limitations, if any.
- Volunteers are required to arrive one hour prior to show time for all performances in both theaters. If a volunteer is twenty minutes or more late to a session, your service may not be needed. After the third incident of tardiness, you will not be asked back to the Signature Theatre Volunteer program.
- A volunteer must contact Signature Theatre 48 hours in advance of his/her shift to re-schedule the volunteer session, except in emergency situations. After the third incident of absence, you will not be asked back to the Signature Theatre Volunteer program.
- Appropriate dress is required. Attire should be business casual at a minimum. Please, no sneakers or flip flops. Each volunteer is required to wear a Signature Theatre Volunteer badge and will be expected to return it at the end of the volunteer session. Volunteer bags and coats should be safely locked away during the volunteer shift.
- Volunteer seating at all performances is at the discretion of the management and is subject to availability.
